Earlier this month, I asked four fellow graduates of the class of 2020 to talk to me about their unique transitions to dancing in professional companies during the COVID-19 outbreak. First is Jake Tribus, a graduate of USC Kaufman who is now at Gibney Company in NYC, and returning Pas de Chit-Chatter. Next is another returning guest of PdCC, Rachel Harris, also a USC Kaufman graduate in NYC with Parsons Dance. Then Ashley Green, a graduate of Point Park University, now a dancer at Whim W'him in Seattle. Finally, we have Jared Brown, a graduate of Juilliard and dancer with Hofesh Shechter 2 in London.
Professional dancers are so often asked about what it was like when they first joined a company, but these four dancers have experienced that same transition on top of so much else. Through all the uncertainty, instability and craziness of 2020, these four incredible artists have pushed through and have kept dancing on!
Check out the video below to hear about what their transitions from student to professional life were like, how their respective companies have been handling health protocols and what their biggest takeaways have been so far.
